Scenes from the Cortez event

Here are some photos and captions from Barb (Sheppard) Lang, giving us an idea of some of the fun and educational things attendees did during the 70th birthday party celebration in and near Cortez, Colorado.
Clicking on each photograph will provide a much larger image.

Mary Koch, standing in the foreground at Castle Rock,
a Pueblo II era ruins located about 15 miles west of Cortez.

Learning about the artifacts in the "store room"
at Crow Canyon Archaeological Center.
Front row: Doug, Judy, Glenn, Warren.
Sitting behind them: Marty, Dorothy, Bev, Beth and Dave (standing).
Behind them, Mary Koch, standing, and Ron, Roger and Meg behind her.

Throwing "atlatls" in front of the pit house at Crow Canyon. Foreground:
Glenn, Sandy, Dick and Jim. Standing (watching): Jim, LouVay and Doug.

The whole gang after lunch at Crow Canyon
just before Sandy V. stepped out
to do her cheerleading!

At the Dillard Site, less than two miles from Crow Canyon
(and about the same distance from Barb & Art's).
Our group was viewing the active archaeological dig of
a Basketmaker II site, presently in its third year of excavation.
No more than 10% of a site is ever excavated
by Crow Canyon archaeologists.
