An October 19, 1960 Hiliner Herald article (courtesy Jack Paulson's archive) said: "As school commences once again, each individual becomes fashion conscious. This year, as every year, the fashions are exciting--for the boys as well as the girls. This year, instead of lowering the waist line, it's been put back where it belongs and the hemline is jumping around. 'Knee ticklers' have become quite popular, emphasizing the casual sporty dress. These skirts are a cross between the regular skirt and the bermuda skirt and they are cut off right at the knee cap. To complete the outfit, knee socks may be worn, thus accenting the knees. For the shyer and smarter students, a pair of contrasting tights would look equally smart." Who wrote that stuff? Also, the Herald should have shown a picture that more clearly showed where those hemlines went, right guys? But hey, the gals always looked terrific no matter how they were photographed!
