Some good news to share!

"About a week ago, Margaret (Peterson) Anderson's husband, Glenn, received a kidney transplant at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester after spending the last 11 1/2 years on dialysis. His is a remarkable story. Margaret sent us the following update (below). The Class of 61 sends its best wishes to Margaret and Glenn. We are delighted that Glenn's recovery is going well." - Diane (Sauer) Hughes

"Dear Classmates: We are one week out from Glenn's transplant. It is a week of healing and the kidney taking hold and the body beginning to adjust to life completely new. He was released from the hospital last Thurs. Our address is: Gift of Life Transplant House, Room 51, 705 2nd St. SW, Rochester, MN 55902. Our phone #s are: Margaret's cell: 715-894-0006 Glenn's cell is 715-704-0041.

"The word so far is Glenn will be staying a month. Today we are working to get a substitute person to stay with Glenn when the reunion is happening. If we can accomplish that, I will move forward with my whole registration. Even if he is released to go home by then, I would come alone and give him time to just heal and adjust.

"Each day has new challenges and answers. We take a baby step at a time and stay close in prayer to the One orchestrating this whole miracle. Our accommodations at the Transplant House are wonderful. It is a 1911 home with several additions. There is a second large new building across the street that is also for transplant famlies. In our building there are 3 dining rooms and 3 kitchens, porches, lounges, exercise room, libraries, parlor, and laundry. We have our own room with ample space and everything we could need. It is the care giver's job to make and clean up after our meals, keep our room and laundry done, see to Glenn's medical and personal needs and appointments, and do any shopping.

"Every person we have met here is a hero, patients and care givers alike. Lots of the people are dealing with huge survival issues, cancer for many. There is a baby boy who had a heart transplant Ap. 9. His mom and dad are here with him till July 9.

"If Barbara Sunde had been ill in the end of the 20th or now, she likely would have been on dialysis until a kidney was available. I had never realized until now that she died of kidney failure. I do not have answers to those weighty questions of why. I recall her gentle spirit and beautiful long brown hair." - Margaret (Peterson) Anderson

Thank you, Margaret, and God's speed to you and Glenn. And, thanks, Diane, for assisting with this post. - Larry

We are all thinking of you and Glenn every day, and we know that you are in a wonderful place for both the surgery and the healing process.
Do I remember correctly that Delores Sather had kidney failure also? It's amazing how far medicine has come in 50 years.

Margaret and Glenn,

I was glad to read your information on Glenn. I hope and pray that things continue to only improve. Three years ago Barb was in a coma do to a bike accident. I was told her brain injury was very severe and to expect the worst. It was the longest three week in my life. With so many people praying for her and the greatness of the medical profession, she recovered. I wish that for you and Glenn.

Dennis,
I was not aware of Barb's bike accident, and I'm so glad to hear that she has recovered. We all have to remember to be thankful for every day of health that we have.
