1959 Prom waitresses
"Four little waitresses, Georgia Stephenson, Lou Vay Ruemler, Sharon Guertin and Beth Carlisle poured the punch for all the thirsty dancers during the 1959 Prom with a theme of the Deep South. Their own faces gave way to paint. Hours were spent creating green hedges from high hurdles, lovely flowers of crepe paper and Kleenex, a stone wall and the porch of a columned mansion. Prom was chaired by Marlowe Evenson and Myrna Johnson; banquet chairman, Heather McCrea." Text and photo from 1959 Sheyenne.

I remember that prom and it was fun to be a "punch girl." I don't think the school would approve of black face these days, but we were innocent in the 50s!
Yikes! This is certainly something we would not see these days . . . times were different in the late 50's . . .and that was several years before the Civil Rights Act of 1964. We were most definitely not educated about the equality of all peoples, and diversity was not happening in Valley City!
When you think about it, MUCH has changed in the past 49 years.
It wasn't so long ago that I came across that dress - perhaps when we cleaned out Mom's house. Wonder if it is still around!
