Going WAY back to 1958 football!

From the Hiliner Herald (Jack Paulson archive), October 31, 1958: "Destroying their reputation of no wins, the Valley City Hi-Liners downed the Grafton High School Spoilers 12-17 in Eastern Division football at Grafton Oct. 14.

"The two Hi-Liner touchdowns were scored by Don Charnetski and Russ Danielson. Both we were made in the second quarter. Kurt Kohn held down the fullback spot with an average of 5 1/2 yards per play. Kohn carried the ball 17 times. Three of the four attempted passes were complete. Dave Risser received two and Jim Sundstrom one."

Note the spelling of Doug Peterson's name in the caption. (Although no 61ers are mentioned in the article, a number are pictured, and, hey, our guys were just getting started!) Click on the photo for a larger image so you can read the names in the caption.

Hey Dug -- what a prophetic spelling of your name--just right for an undertaker!

Wow! Thank goodness this caption wasn't written during the years that our class was publishing the newspaper. Our Junior year???
