The unforgettable NuBeats!

Thanks to Bryce Risser for the above three photos!  Click on photos for larger images. Bryce writes:  "The shot of the NuBeats by the U-Haul was taken at my house. (L-R): Gordy Blaskowski, Tom Stine, yours truly, and Bob Ingstad.  I seem to recall we were loading to head to Richardton or maybe Lamoure. That's Mr. Stine's (Walt's) station wagon. If you look closely, you can see the white sport coats hanging in the back of the trailer. We played somewhere almost every weekend during the summer.

"The two other shots were taken at the Teen Canteen: (L-R) Yours trulyTom, Gordy, and Bob (on drums). We must have been 'all instrumental' at the time: no microphones! Notice the lounge chairs that lined the walls, the tile floor, upon which lots of us fell in love...or "whatever," the paintings on the walls.

"Sonny Throckmorton wrote a song which was made a hit by George Burns a few years back; the hook was, youth only happens to you one time, and so I've been told; if you should miss it your young time, have it when you're old. Thanks to the blog, I'm having it again when I'm old!  - See ya soon!" - Bryce

An interview with Bryce Risser about the Nubeats and the Nubeats' two record sides are available elsewhere on this blog. Give a listen!

Your blogmeister thinks the name of the George Burns' hit from which Bryce quotes a verse may have been "I Wish I Was Eighteen Again." A couple of other verses go like this (and how true these words are--an ideal "anthem" for the reunion):  "Now time turns the pages; And, oh, life goes so fast; The years turn the black hair all grey; I talked to some young folks, hey, they don't understand, the words this old man's got to say: I wish I was eighteen again...and going where I've never been; but old folks and old oaks, standing tall just pretend: I wish I was eighteen again"
