Tragic news

We've learned of the death of Lavetta Jahr, 68, wife of St. Kates' graduate Loyd Jahr (Class of 1960). Lavetta died August 6 as the result of an automobile collision as she and her husband were returning to Cheyenne, Wyoming, from the All-60s Reunion in Valley City. According to the obituary, she was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Ethel Thilmony and brothers Pete and Chancey Thilmony. Loyd and Lavetta were married for 48 years.

The head-on collision occurred on Highway 85 near Bowman, North Dakota, at 2:00 P.M., July 16, 2010,  according to the Highway Patrol. Occupants of both cars were taken to the Bowman Hospital.

Also from the obituary: A memorial service was held today (August 14, 2010) in Minneapolis at her brother Mac's home. Memorials may be directed to the family and will be used for a memorial bench in Lions Park, Cheyenne, WY.

You may remember that Loyd's dad operated Jahr's Barber Shop on East Main in Valley City.
