Four little Valley City sweethearts!

"Thank heaven, for little girls," as the song goes, "they grow up in the most delightful ways." And these four certainly did! (L-R) Susie Davy, Judy Risser, Peggy Carlisle, and Bonnie Cink, who shared this photo from her amazingly deep memorabilia files. Understand the girls are probably in 2nd grade in this photo and, of course, they all would become 1965 graduates of Valley City High School. Go Hi-Liners!

And who took the photo? Here's the photographer...

Thanks to Bonnie (Cink) Ness for also sending us this photo of Miss Steinborn from the 1955 yearbook. She was one of my favorite teachers and VCHS pillars. And she knew her way around a camera and how to take great photos for the yearbooks. Please share your memories of Miss Steinborn in the comments section below. - Posted by Larry Gauper  Click on photos for larger images.

Oh my gosh, how can I think of just one thing to say! Miss Steinborn knew me from birth, as my dad was a teacher at the high school when I was born. My mom said all the "single lady" teachers would come to visit, and would spoil me to death. Our duplex was just one block north of the high school - 141 6th St. - up the alley behind Doug Peterson's dad's funeral home. George Goff lived in an apartment building behind the Wicks house on the corner of my block. Margaret Peterson across the street, the Rissers and Van Enks up the block.
Miss Steinborn was ALWAYS the yearbook advisor, and she had that camera with her all the time. I can remember being at her house (can't remember where -- northwest?) and helping her with her piles of photographs. Truth is that she organized the yearbooks and the "editors" just helped!! We did have to do the writing of captions and stories/summaries, but she was the big decision-maker, I think.
Lost track of her after high school. Assume she retired from the school in her mid-60's and lived out her life in Valley City. Would be interesting to know more about her later years . . . .. .

Barb, I really enjoyed reading your reminiscences about Miss Steinborn. Here's a little info I was able to find about her: born May 24, 1899, in Barnes County; died August 23, 1973, in Barnes County.
