Well, at least for this year we were. I found this somewhat faded Times- Record article in a scrapbook my mother had put together. I tend to think this was from the Spring of 1955, so we were 5th and 6th graders. Perhaps someone can date this for us. Ron Morsch, der Zweitbesetzung Blogmeister

I'm thinking it was 1956, Ron -- our 6th grade year. I was on Lincoln's team then, along with Jack Paulson, Bobby Nielsen and other luminaries. Our coach was Billy Bowen. I remember that Ritchie's Bobby Anderson was a big star, and the name of our league, "Itty Biddy," still strikes terror in the hearts of lesser mortals. Thanks for sparking some fun memories.
The minute I looked at this photo, I realized that the boy standing next to you, Ron, was Joel Holden. And then I read the caption and saw that I was right! Until just now, I had been unable to place him, even though we talked about him alot as we were looking for old classmates back in July, and then, of course, you FOUND him! What a good looking group of young guys - and every face is so familiar. It's no wonder that the girls had crushes on so many of you, even then. :-)
Jerry, I'm pretty sure it was the spring of 1955. I moved in Dec of 55 to Ohio, I was in the 7th grade then. I also have the article from the Spring of 1954 when St Kates won. The article has pictures of the teams from St Kates, College Elem, Lincoln and Ritchie. I'll post it as soon as I can get a good scan of a 56 1/2 year old newspaper clipping. My clearest memory of these games is that the Armory was always like an ice-box on Saturdays.
You're right, Ron; it was 1955. By the way, do you have any other sports-related pix or articles from that era? I'd be especially interested in anything relating to Lincoln School -- or anything about Pussytoe and Pussyfoot baseball. I played for the Times-Record team in my early baseball days.
Ron - thank you for posting these GREAT photos of you little star athletes from way back when. I wasn't even in your class, and I recognized some of you guys, especially the ones from my sister Juleen Cink's class ('62). I knew Dick McConn right away! I love your enthusiasm for this blog, and hope hope hope you keep it going after LG drops out. Thanks again for all your creative work! Bonnie Cink Ness('65)
