The Hiliners '61 Reunion Committee

Led by Barbara (Sheppard) Lang, this was the committee that spear-headed the 50th Reunion of the Class of 1961, held during our 49th year since graduation, in Valley City. This new shot was taken by Bonnie Cink Ness (VH '65) after the buffet dinner served at the Chautauqua Park Pavilion, July 9, 2010.  Click on photo for larger image (to not lose the blog, right-click and "open in new window" - this is true for all links in this blog).

(L-R): Back row: Ron Morsch, Larry Gauper, Beth (Carlisle) Anderson, Doug Peterson, Treasurer; ; Middle and front row: Colleen (Bryngelson) Zick, Rhea (DeLabarre) Mills, Diane (Sauer) Hughes, LouVay (Ruemler) White, Marleen (Miller) Pytlik, Margaret (Peterson) Anderson; and our Chairperson, Barbara (Sheppard) Lang. Each was presented with a commemorative mouse pad, created by Diane, bearing a the blog's header photo of the Hiline Bridge.

My personal thanks to everyone who worked on the committee and, especially, to Barb for her initiatve in getting this thing started and keeping all of us working hard toward the goal, which, I believe, exceeded expectations. And, a big, hearty thank you to Barb for her contribution of the souvenir mugs (shown in foreground) as a gift from her to all of us!  Your blogmeister also wishes to express special thanks to Diane for her tireless assistance in preparing the bio pages for the blog and backing me up in my attempts to keep the blog accurate and timely.

Thanks too to Doug for handling the money and paying the bills. I guess there wasn't enough left for Doug and I to abscond with the funds and head for Diane's place in Arizona this winter. Shucks! LouVay was also tireless in her work in making the President's House a wonderful retreat and thanks to Marleen for food arrangements at the Pavilion. Ron's outstanding work on the best name badges I've ever seen (and I've seen a lot of them) and for his work on with me on blog items and other arrangements for the our reunion.

Colleen gave me help on Dario material for the blog, along with other items, and Rhea contributed so much in terms of archival material. Thanks to her granddaughter Cadi for the tours and help at the Presdient's House. Appreciate also Margaret's and Beth's help with a number of items that made the blog interesting to create and, for many of you, to follow. And thanks to everyone for their attendance and the committee also appreciates the messages of support from all who couldn't attend, but followed the reunion via the blog. A great time was had by all and there's more to come! - der Blogmeister

Wish I could have made it to this get-to-gether in the park Friday. Talking to my classmates on Saturday sounded like a lot of fun. I am really glad to have been able to be there on Saturday. After 49 years to have 18 of 29 attend is pretty good. With 4 that have passed away - 1 in long term care that's a pretty good turn out. We are planning reunion for next summer ( true 50 years)
Thanks for all the work,
Gary Larson CHS Class of 1961

I think we all owe a Great Big Thanks to Larry Gauper for all the work he did on the committee and on the 61'ers Blog.

Larry, I know you put in a lot of time into the blog. I for one enjoyed reading the entries and thank you for your great effort.

Thanks from the St, Kates group.

Thanks, George, and everybody, for all the kind words about and recognition for the work I did on the blog. It was a "labor of love" and still is. We'll be adding material as we go along and, if folks send me the news, updates on major life events of our classmates. Once a "61'er" from St. Kates, College High, or Valley High...ALWAYS at "61'er!"

There is no doubt that the blog was the "glue" that put this all together. Each committee member made his/her contribution, but having a focal point, made so personal and interesting by Larry, really created the reunion atmosphere for all of us. Thanks again, Larry. I've so enjoyed working with you.

Reunions are too short, but wonderful. Larry is helping us continue our Hi-Liner spirit by devoting even more time to help maintain our blog. We are enjoying follow up on some of the connections we made in July, whether all of us could attend or not. Many thanks to the others on the committee and to our "instigator, inspirer" Barb. It was quite a team effort.

Thanks, Beth - it seems to me that the "team" had an extremely good time on the internet, putting this event together. It gave us a six month reunion instead of just one weekend! I wonder what the percentage of our group e-mails were about sharing stories/memories as opposed to "work"? 60% perhaps?
This truly was a labor of love and I am so happy to have all of the new memories to add to the old ones. With the blog, I think we will stay more connected as a class than we ever have during the past 50 years! Hooray for the internet, at least in this case.
